Richard Wendkièta Kaboré

Artistic director and founder of the company

Born April 29th/1980 in Ouagadougou, Richard Kabore is fascinated by body language from an early age. He studied traditional african dance before devoting himself, since 2001, to contemporary dance under the direction of choreographers Robert Seyfried, Matteo Molès, Bernardo Montet, Xavier Lot, Gregory Maqoma, Salia Sanou, Dimitri Chamblas, Rockya Kone Marc Feh, Lassan Congo, Banu Ogan, Hee-Jin Kim, Seydou Boro, Ousseni Sako et al.

In 2002, after joining the Co. Feeren Amadou Buru he began a performing career that will take him first on tour in West Africa, before touring also in Europe with the National Ballet Burkina Faso, under the direction of Irene Tassembédo, which he joined in 2003.

In order to pursue his education, he decided in 2004 to settle in western Switzerland, where he honed his skills in classical and contemporary dance with choreographer Gilles Jobin, Foowfa Imobilité, La Ribot, Marco Berretini et al.

Upon his arrival in Switzerland he worked with many local contemporary dance companies and manages to harmonise a successful professional career and professional training. He has worked with the Co Sans Filtres in « Bonjour demain » (2005), la Co Rebecca Spinetti in « Inuit » (2007), la Co Gilles Jobin in « Text to Speech » (2008-2009), la Co Phillipe Saire in « Lonesome Cowboy » (2009-2010) et la Co Foowfa d’Imobilité in « Fenix » (2012-2013).

In 2008 he founded his own company Va-et-Vient and performs his first work C’était pas moi-même (2010) at the festival Les printemps du Sévelin et Juillet Danse, followed by Centre du Monde (2012, Festival Nyongonben Bobo-Dioulassou, Fête de la Danse) and A la frontière du visible (2014, Fête de la Danse).

In order to complete his teacher training he studied under Jean-Christophe Bleton in 2011 and is active as a teacher in the public schools of the canton Vaud from the same year.

Open to all backgrounds and eager to share his experiences Richard Kaboré contributes in 2010 to a sociological research on the topic of « Gender socialization, classical and contemporary dance » carried out by the University of Lausanne.

Curiosity and openness in research, generosity in transmission, Richard Kabore’s strength lies in the wealth of his influences and his committment to safeguard the diversity of artistic culture.

The choice of multidisciplinarity and concern for documentation accompany his career steadily and will culminate in two projects, RIWKA and ARTSCENEenLIVE, on which Richard Kabore and his team are presently working on.
